During a 2 days trip from Timisoara you can have a quick escape to Transylvania or explore the Banat region.
In Transylvania you can visit an imposing gothic castle in Hunedoara, the largest fortified town having a star shape (Alba Iulia), and Sibiu, a charming medieval town.
Banat region in Western Romania offers some unique experiences: a boat ride on the spectacular Danube gorge and a visit to a village which still has 20 functioning water mills where people still grind their flour.
We’re making a few suggestions below and we can further tailor the trip to your interests and expectations. Or we can simply create another trip plan.
Option 1 – From Timisoara to Transylvania
On the first day we will stop by a bison’s reserve and the oldest church in Romania on our way to the gothic Covin castle in Hunedoara, the most imposing in the whole of Transylvania.
Then we will visit a UNESCO World Heritage site, the peasant fortress in Calnic. In the evening we will arrive in Sibiu where we will stay overnight.
In the second morning we will have a walking tour of Sibiu which will include the defensive walls and towers of the medieval fortification, the most beautiful buildings and squares and the famous Bridge of Lies. We will also have time for a museum of your choice: the open-air village museum, the art or history museum.
Then we will travel to Alba Iulia, a town of major historic important significance for Romania as it is here that in 1918 Transylvania united with the rest of Romania. It is a star-shaped medieval fortified town, it has impressive baroque gates, beautiful churches and buildings.
On our way back to Timisoara we will stop by a traditional wooden church.
Option 2 - Out in the nature
We will travel to the Beusnita-Nera Gorge National where we will have a wonderful 3 hours hike along a river until we find the turquoise Beului Lake and further on through a beautiful meadow to a waterfall.
In the afternoon we’ll drive to Eftimie Murgu village where we will see some 20 water mills where locals still grind their corn and wheat to get flour.
We will spend the night at a hotel by the Danube river.
On the second morning we will have a 2 hours boat ride through the mighty Danube Gorge. It is here that the Danube is the narrowest and deepest, passing through mountains, a truly magnificent place.
We’ll have lunch by the Danube and in the afternoon we’ll go for a hike to a remote village set on a plateau at 1000m altitude having a breath-taking view. After the hike we can go for a bath in a hot water natural pool in Baile Herculane before heading back to Timisoara.

We will fix the price when we will know the exact group size. If you will want to make changes to the program, that might influence the price as well.
Timisoara.
We can also start and finish from Arad for example which is close by. In case you do not want to return to Timisoara from Sibiu for example, we can also finish the trip there.
