Sibiu will be the first medieval town to explore in Transylvania, rich in cultural activities after being chosen European Capital of Culture in 2007.
During a guided walking tour, you will discover the centuries-old defense towers and walls, charming squares and historic buildings and learn about some of the citadel's legends.
You will also visit the open-air village museum, where traditional houses are displayed and you will find out how traditional occupations were and still are practiced in rural areas.
If the guided trip in Transylvania will start from Bucharest and if weather allows (June to October), we can drive towards Sibiu on the spectacular Transfagarasan road.
In Biertan you will discover the most imposing fortified church in Transylvania, build by the German Saxons to protect themselves from Mongol and Ottoman invaders.
Then you will visit Sighisoara, one of the most beautiful fortified medieval citadels in Europe, laid on a hilltop, well preserved and currently a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will enjoy the cobbled narrow streets, having names of the old craftsmen guilds, the defensive towers, the Clock Tower, the history museum and the church on the hill.
In the evening you will experience true village life in Viscri, where you can see a blacksmith and a brick maker at work, as well as cows returning from pasture.
We continue to Brasov, a town laid in a picturesque location between mountains, a former fortress where you can still see centuries old buildings and an imposing “Black” Church. We will take the cable car to go up on the nearby mountain for a panoramic view of the town and the region.
Then you will visit the Bran Castle, usually associated with Dracula, in reality a well-preserved medieval castle, tastefully decorated by our queen in the 1920s.
In the evening you can visit one more castle, in Rasnov, or go for a walk in nature.
If you are interested in bears, you will visit the bear sanctuary in Zarnesti, where over 70 bears are enjoying a natural living habitat after being rescued from places where they were kept captive in very poor conditions. Besides seeing them, you will find out the moving stories of some of them.
The last stop of this guided trip in Transylvania will be Sinaia, where you will visit two beautiful castles, Peles and Pelisor, built by Romanian kings more than a century ago. They are set in wonderful natural settings in the mountains and rooms are intricately and finely decorated.
In the evening you will arrive in Bucharest.
