From Arad you have several interesting options for a day trip. We are suggesting 2 ideas but other day or multi-day trips are possible to the mountains, countryside, other towns.
Option 1: Visit Timisoara, the place where the 1989 anti-communist revolution started, being the best place to learn about it. Timisoara also has charming squares and architecture, being a very lively and young town with many universities. On the same day we can also visit the only circular shaped village in Romania, the Soimos fortress and a vineyard producing very good wine. There is also the catholic church in Vinga, one of the largest in Romania, built by the catholic local Bulgarian community, interestingly enough.
Option 2: Travel to the Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, the most imposing in Transylvania, built in the 15th century. On the way we will also pass by Soimos and Deva fortresses, both from the 13th century, built on hilltops for a strategic view of the surrounding areas.
If interested, we can also include a guided tour of Arad on the same day.
These are day trip some ideas and we can create other tailor-made trips or we can extend them to more days. For further inspiration, please have a look at this nature weekend trip, a wine tasting weekend or a week long tour of Banat region, close to Arad, any of these tours can start from Arad or Timisoara.
