Europe’s best preserved Delta is a heaven for nature photography with over 300 bird species (i.e. cormorants, pelicans, swans, stork) and wild animals (otter, horses, weasel).
The local Lipovans have a fascinating life, living from fishing and keeping their traditions as centuries back - very picturesque.
This 4 days photography workshop in the Danube Delta allows you to discover this wonderful place and to work on your photography skills.
Day 1
Transfer to Danube Delta and traditional welcome dinner.
In the evening you will get to know the other participants, each other’s picture portfolio and start discussions on how your pictures can improve in the coming days.
Day 2
We set sail to catch the sunrise and the Delta coming to life. Today we’ll wonder at the beauty of wildlife, navigate through the labyrinth of channels and approach bird colonies.
The fishing and farming community living in the Delta has a captivating lifestyle, based on what nature has to
offer, some without electricity, working very hard and enduring harsh conditions.
The life of many hasn’t changed much compared to a century ago and the population is declining. They go on making nets, fishing, drying and smoking fish, rowing, harvesting reed, gardening and fighting mosquitos.
Great moments for portrait and documentary photos are expected.
Day 3
On this day we’ll try to create more complex compositions by combining different elements: birds, animals, people, constructions, objects, sky, water,
forest, reed, boats, sun, shades, lines, trees. It gets even more spectacular when we go out at sunrise and sunset.
Day 4
Wrapping up our workshops by giving final comments on pictures taken, select the best ones and acknowledge them. We shoot some more pictures on the way back from the middle of the Delta. Transfer to Tulcea.
Individual Guidance and Daily Feedback
Daily we’ll discuss participants’ portfolio and pictures taken during the workshop. Techniques and tips will be shared and discussed, as relevant. Picture-editing methods will be also presented and feedback will be provided to each participant so this is very much of a hands-on workshop.

The Danube Delta is the best preserved of European deltas, having 4 times the size of London. This land of waters guides you into a journey sprinkled with natural islands, lonely floating forests and incredible wildlife.
The Danube Delta is listed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve because of its peculiar features and more than 25 types of natural ecosystems. It is considered to be the third in the world in terms of ecological significance (after Galapagos Island and the Great Barrier Reef) among the 300 reserves of the world.
The Delta is formed around the three main channels of the Danube, named after their respective ports: Chilia, Sulina , and Sfantu Gheorghe.
Wherever you look, you can see floating islets covered by rush and reed, rainforest-like lianas, lakes with muddy depths and surfaces carpeted by water lilies. The boats of fishermen stir countlesspelicans and flocks of cormorants and moor hens from their nests beyond the reed curtains.
Over 300 bird species have been recorded, of which over 176 species breed here, the most important being cormorant, pygmy cormorant, white pelican and Dalmatian pelican. There are numerous multi-species of heron colonies and raptor species including white-tailed eagle.
Sorin is much appreciated for his photographing skills and his passion for rural heritage conservation in Transylvania. He is currently doing a PhD on the topic “Traditional blacksmiths in Transylvania”, has studied photography for 3 years at the Folk Art College in Timisoara, and has a bachelor in history.
As a photographer, he had tens of personal photography exhibitions in Romania. He also won numerous awards such as:
As an author, he wrote 5 books about rural Transylvanian heritage.
For several years now, Sorin is a free-lance photographer and organizes photography workshops in rural Transylvania, a place he knows like the back of his palm.

The city of Tulcea is the access point to the Danube Delta. First you will probably need to get to Bucharest and then transfer to Tulcea by road or rail, 300km. Once the workshop is confirmed and participants are known we can propose a convenient way of transferring.

From Bucharest to Tulcea
By train, searching through this website. There are also several buses a day, here is a schedule.
Payment is done through bank transfer. Once you contact us we will issue an invoice and provide you our bank account. At first you will need to pay 100 EUR per person for confirming the reservation and 4 weeks before the start date, the full amount should be paid.
We will stay at a pension in Mila 23 village, classified with 3 flowers.
Meals are cooked by traditional recipes and most ingredients are local. Lunch can be a snack, picnic or on the go.
The city of Tulcea is the pick-up and drop-off point, we will be based in Mila 23 village, a 3 hours boat-ride.
