Weaving

Village activities

Having a dowry was so important for girls when they wanted to marry that they had to learn weaving at an early age to prepare textiles attractive and in enough quantities to appeal to potential mates.

There was more than love to a marriage. This is how weaving became the most popular craft in Romania and it was used for blankets, rugs, wall hangings, tablecloths and clothes.

Nowadays many looms still exist and elder women will teach us how it is done and will give us the chance to express our creativity. We will learn how thread is made from sheep wool, how natural paints are obtained and then how the weaving process actually works.
