Wine making in September

Village activities

Romanians have produced wine for 3000 years and in medieval times, wine was the most common beverage. Nowadays many rural families still have a small vineyard for making home-made wine.

In villages most weddings take place in autumn after fresh wine is made to serve to guests. In September we can join a family harvesting, de-stemming and then squeezing grapes to finally get the liquor. Fresh, it will be a sweet juice but a few days later, as it ferments, we will taste the alcohol. Such a day can be well combined with cheese making.
